I am very concerned about the number of unwell children around today. More and more of our children are falling sick with chronic illnesses every day. A big question we need to ask ourselves is... are we poisoning our children? The hard answer is: YES, we are, even though it is not our fault. Our environments are becoming increasingly more and more toxic, building up to dangerous levels in our children. We are seeing children with cancers, asthma, ADD, skin rashes, debilitating headaches, joint pain, nosebleeds and tiny babies with decreased cognitive abilities, autism and Asperger’s Syndrome and children with early onset puberty, leukemia, incapacitating allergies and many other chronic illnesses.DR. PHILIP LANDRIGAN said: "To me as a medical detective, the first clue is the increase in the incidence of childhood cancer. That signals that something is going wrong."
And we are having unprecedented numbers of children being diagnosed with all sorts of cancers.WHY? Is there something out there which is causing it? What can I do about it? These are the sorts of question most parents are asking themselves. The answer is: toxic chemicals in the food, water, and baby products we use everyday on our precious babies. What are some of the chemicals of concern?- Parabens,
- Sodium Laurel Sulphate,
- 1,4-dioxane,
- Bisphenol-A,
- Nitrosamines,
- Lead and
- formaldehyde
...to name just a few to be found in baby products. They are in the diaper wipes, the diaper cream, shampoos, baby bathtime bubbles, soap and even in the toothpaste. There is the lining of the cans of baby food and in the polycarbonate and plastic baby bottles and sippy cups. If you heat your baby's formula in the microwave, the amount of Bisphenol-A, Nitrosamines, Parabens and Lead that leeches into the formula from the plastic is very dangerous indeed. Why do we need to be afraid of these chemicals? Research has shown many of the chemicals in common use, are linked to cancer and hormone disruption. Hormone disruptors can lead to developmental problems in our children. SLS is an irritant and together with 1,4-dioxane are linked to cancer and skin allergies and possibly to the increased rate of asthma today. What can we do about it? Use the power of the purse... don't buy the products. There are so many eco-friendly and safe products available now that we don't need to use those products that contain toxic ingredients and keep your baby safe. This is the first post in a series about chemicals in our environments (our homes, workplaces and vehicles). I hope you found it useful and informative.CC
